From a bucket to a bright future

From a bucket to a bright future

In July, six tiny kittens were brought to our member charity Mayhew after being discovered abandoned in a plastic bucket. At just a few days old they were completely helpless and had little chance of survival without their mother’s care.

A group of tiny newborn kittens huddled together on a soft white towel inside a container, sleeping closely for warmth and comfort.

Sadly, despite their best efforts to find her, the kitten’s mother couldn’t be located. But thanks to the dedication and round-the-clock attention of Mayhew’s incredible team and a loving foster carer, these kittens, affectionately known as the “Bucket Kittens,” were hand-reared with love, warmth, and expert care. Each feeding, cuddle, and day of care gave them the strength they needed to survive — and eventually thrive.

But their journey wasn’t without further challenges. Alongside being separated from their mother at birth, the kittens were also incredibly poorly. Sadly one kitten, named Uri, didn’t make it. With medical treatment and continuous monitoring, the remaining five made a remarkable recovery and grew into playful, curious, and affectionate little cats ready to take on the world.

Now, Bali, Clover, Kalina, Ezra, and Tito are full of life and personality: Bali is an easy-going girl, gentle, and always ready for a cuddle.Clover is the groups curious explorer who’s first to investigate anything new. Although a little shy at first, Kalina is full of energy once she’s comfortable, and Ezra and Tito adore attention and snuggling together.

From a plastic bucket to bright futures ahead, these kittens’ story is a heart-warming reminder of the difference compassion makes.

We’re delighted to say that all five kittens have now found their forever homes. Thanks to the kindness of supporters like you, now they will be loved and cherished for the rest of their lives.
