From First-Timer to Six-Star Finisher: Running Tokyo for Animals in Need

From First-Timer to Six-Star Finisher: Running Tokyo for Animals in Need

When Claire laced up her trainers for the first time in 2018, she never imagined that one marathon would turn into a global journey help causes do go as she ran! But what started as a personal challenge – to tick the London Marathon off her life bucket list – has grown into something far bigger. Now, with five major Marathons all under her belt, she’s preparing to run in Tokyo in March 2026 – and we’re delighted that this next adventure is raising funds for Together for Animals!

Her first marathon – London 2018 – wasn’t exactly an easy start. In fact, it was the hottest London Marathon on record. A non-runner at the time, her preparation consisted mostly of a few gym classes. But despite the heat and the struggle, she finished – and a curiosity was peaked. “I thought maybe I could get a better time,” Claire told us. “And I realised I liked having a challenge – something to work towards.”

The following year, Claire went even further, taking on the London Classics – running the marathon again, completing the 100-mile RideLondon, and swimming 2 miles in the Serpentine. She hadn’t ridden a bike or swum since high school, but that didn’t stop her! She bought a bike, learned to swim again, and pushed through – earning her Classics medal in 2019.

Then came a new ambition: the Abbott Six Star Medal – awarded to those who complete all six World Marathon Majors – London, Berlin, Chicago, New York and Boston. Tokyo will be the final star.

This time, she’s running to help pets and working animal in need – fundraising for Together for Animals. “I love animals and hate hearing stories of them suffering or being abandoned,” she explains. “People can be so cruel, but charities like Together for Animals are there to give animals the love and care they deserve.”

She knows the power of compassion firsthand. She’s adopted two rescue cats – sweet Velvet, who sadly passed away, and Clark, a misunderstood stray who turned out to be the gentlest cuddlebug.

“I ran my first marathon for charity, and now I want to finish this amazing journey doing the same – supporting animals who need our help.”

Her Tokyo run isn’t just the end of a six-race global journey – it’s a celebration of strength, kindness, and it’s going to help make a difference for animals in need.
