Peanut and Popcorn Find Their Forever Home
Two adorable donkeys born at our member charity, World Horse Welfare, have found their perfect forever home after an uncertain start to life.
Peanut and Popcorn were born at the Belwade Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Aberdeenshire after their mothers, Mia and Molly, were rescued last year whilst heavily pregnant. Thanks to the expert care they received, both mums and foals were given the best possible start.
Donkeys form incredibly strong bonds, so Peanut and Popcorn — who were born just ten weeks apart — needed to be rehomed together once they were old enough. Finding a home for a bonded pair can be challenging, but in September their luck changed when they found the perfect match.

“When Peanut and Popcorn were advertised for rehoming, someone I know spotted them and sent me links to World Horse Welfare’s website,” explains rehomer Carol. “As soon as I read their profiles, I felt they would be a perfect fit. I did take time to consider it carefully before applying, as I already had two donkeys and wanted to be sure it was right for everyone.”
Carol was soon invited to Belwade Farm to meet Peanut and Popcorn, where it became clear they would settle in well with her two older donkeys, Duffy and Henrietta.
“They’ve fitted in beautifully and have such lovely personalities,” says Carol. “They’re very funny and have really brought new energy to Duffy and Henrietta. It’s wonderful to see all four of them zooming around the field together.”
Now settled into their new home, Peanut and Popcorn are looking forward to many happy years ahead. “All my animals have a home for life,” adds Carol. “So hopefully this will be the first of many happy Christmases together. I can’t imagine them not being here now.”

Carol’s decision to rehome was inspired by knowing how many unwanted and neglected animals are still in need of help. “I’ve always believed in rehoming,” she says. “Giving Peanut and Popcorn a home has made space for two more horses or donkeys who need rescue. The whole experience was brilliant — the Belwade Farm team were friendly, helpful and incredibly efficient. I’d recommend rehoming to anyone.”
