A note, a cat, and a growing crisis

A note, a cat, and a growing crisis

“I am being made homeless,” read the heartbreaking note left with Marley.

The tabby, aged four, was left at the gates of our member Blue Cross’ Hertfordshire rehoming centre in a cat carrier in December, just weeks before Christmas.

Heartbreakingly, Marley is just one of many cats in this awful situation. There have been more abandonments at the Hertfordshire site in the last six months than in the past six years—a sad sign of the hidden welfare crisis the UK is facing.

Sophie, Pet Welfare Assistant, said: “Marley was found by one of the team when she arrived for work in the morning. A note left with her said her owner had been made homeless and had nowhere to take her.

“She was clearly very loved and had been well looked after, as she was in good health and affectionate.

“Although nervous at first, Marley quickly settled in, and she’s now really good with unfamiliar people. She’s a lovely cat.”

Thanks to your support, Marley is now enjoying a second chance at the life she deserves, but her story sadly highlights the increasing demand on all our member charities and their services—and why your donations are so important.
