Dolly’s happy future
In the spring of 2023, a tiny poodle cross named Dolly entered the world in the loving care of one of Together for Animals member Mayhew’s dedicated foster carers. She was one of a litter of eight puppies, born to a courageous mother who had already endured so much.
Dolly’s mother, also named Dolly, had been surrendered by her previous owners and arrived at Mayhew in need of care. When she was first brought in, she was matted, underweight and, as the team soon discovered, heavily pregnant.
Thanks to the kindness and generosity of supporters like you, Dolly senior was able to receive the medical care and nourishment she so needed.
The expert team at Mayhew worked tirelessly to ensure she was healthy and comfortable, giving her the best chance to safely deliver and care for her puppies. Within a warm and secure environment, Dolly’s puppies were given the best possible start in life, growing up surrounded by care and affection.
After spending the crucial first 12 weeks with their mother, each of the puppies began their own journeys to find loving homes. Dolly junior, found her forever home with Gill and Ian, and quickly became a cherished member of their family.
Now, in 2025, Dolly junior’s journey has come full circle. Thanks to your support, not only is she flourishing in a wonderful home, but she is also giving back to others in a meaningful way. Dolly has become an official therapy dog through Mayhew’s TheraPaws programme, an initiative that brings the comfort and companionship of animals to those who need it most.
TheraPaws is an animal-assisted therapy programme where specially assessed dogs and their dedicated owners visit care homes, hospitals, mental health centres, and workplaces. Their presence provides comfort, joy, and emotional support to individuals who may not have the opportunity to experience the unconditional love of a pet.
Dolly junior took her first official visit as a therapy dog to Imperial College, where she was an instant hit at a staff wellbeing session. Her presence helped to reduce stress, boost morale, and create a calming atmosphere. Many staff members left the session feeling rejuvenated, lighter, and ready to take on the rest of their day with a refreshed mindset.
