Ruby’s journey: From rescue cat to a forever home

A heartbreaking change for Ruby
Ruby arrived at our member charity Mayhew in very sad circumstances. Her devoted owner, diagnosed with early dementia, could no longer care for her.
At ten years old, Ruby had only ever known one home. Suddenly finding herself in an unfamiliar environment was overwhelming. She struggled to trust new people and was often overlooked by potential adopters searching for younger pets.
Patient care and kindness
Thankfully, Mayhew’s dedicated team never gave up on Ruby. With daily meals, veterinary care, patience, and gentle reassurance, Ruby slowly began to rebuild her confidence. The kindness she received ensured she was never alone during her time in care.
A happy ending at last
After more than a year in Mayhew’s care, Ruby finally found her forever home. Her journey is a reminder that some cats need extra time, care, and compassion before they are ready to move forward – and that your kindness makes all the difference.
