Belle’s journey: From abandoned dog to loving home
In the summer of 2022, Belle’s life changed forever. The 10-year-old dog was found tied to a post outside a supermarket, left alone in the heat for six long hours. Confused, frightened, and clearly abandoned, her future looked uncertain.
Thankfully, our member charity Mayhew stepped in to give Belle the urgent help she needed.
A rescue dog in need of care
When Belle first arrived at Mayhew, she required immediate veterinary treatment for painful cysts. She was also partially deaf and deeply anxious, especially around other dogs. Understandably, her chances of finding a new home quickly were slim.
But Mayhew’s dedicated team refused to give up on her. They provided nutritious food, expert medical treatment, and, most importantly, patience and love. Slowly, Belle’s gentle and affectionate personality began to shine through.
The longest resident at Mayhew
Despite the team’s best efforts, Belle spent more than a year in care – becoming Mayhew’s longest-ever resident dog. Staff and volunteers ensured she was never alone, spending extra time with her each day so she felt safe, loved, and part of the Mayhew family.
With the support of a foster carer, Belle also learned simple sign language commands to help her communicate. She discovered the joy of home life and daily walks in the park – small but important steps in her journey to recovery.
A happy ending for Belle
Thanks to the kindness of supporters, Belle received the care, stability, and love she needed every single day. And after her long wait, Belle’s story has finally taken the happiest of turns – she has now been reserved for adoption.
